Neuschwanstein Castle was built to look like a fairy tale castle, and I’m pleased to report that it does. We detoured to visit it on our way from Munich up to Garmisch. We decided to follow Google Maps instructions for walking up to the Marienbrücke bridge, which promised to offer the best views of the castle. As it turns out, they had closed the Marienbrücke bridge, so we ended walking our way through the woods to locked gates. Whoops! But we did manage to get some nice views of both Neuschwanstein castle and the neighbouring Hohenschwangau Castle. The tour of the castle interior was a bit underwhelming, but it made for a nice side-trip on our journey into the Alps.
